Giving back to our community
Menninger is proud of its long history of giving back to its community. With our move to Houston in 2003, this city experienced a much needed increase in the number of psychiatric beds available to residents of the Gulf Coast region.
Serving individuals who cannot pay for their treatment has been a part of Menninger's corporate DNA since our inception. We spend 5 percent of our gross revenue each year on free care. Patients who benefit from this free care come from across the country, although it is primarily provided to low-income clients of the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County, the Council on Alcohol and Drugs-Houston and the Harris County Hospital District.
Building a more powerful voice
Menninger is dedicated to extending the voices of mental health advocates so that accelerated action can be taken to erase the stigma that still surrounds mental illness. Our president and chief executive officer plays an active role in educating decision makers about the mental health needs of persons in the criminal justice system and in addressing the need for a mental health safety net for the uninsured.
We contribute clinical resources to area nonprofit agencies and reduced-fee clinics, benefiting the least served among us. Through the media and the Internet, Menninger's expertise reaches a far broader audience.
The Epicenter edge
At The Epicenter, we'll continue our tradition of giving back with more resources, faculty and space than ever before, we'll find even more ways to collaborate with local, regional and national mental health advocates and organizations. We will also have valuable conference space for public and professional educational programs.
