Hope and healing: what those with mental illness need most.

You probably know someone who suffers from mental illness. According to these compelling statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health:
  • 1 in 4 Americans 18 or older, or nearly 26 percent, have a diagnosable mental illness in any given year, while 1 in 17 have a serious mental disorder
  • Nearly half of individuals with a mental illness suffer from 2 or more disorders
  • Depression is the leading cause of disability for those ages 15 to 44 in the U.S. and Canada
  • Roughly 9 percent of Americans have a personality disorder
  • Major mental disorders cost the U.S. at least $193 billion annually in lost earnings alone
At Menninger, we're committed to helping individuals with mental illness. With The Epicenter, we imagine:
  • Expanding treatment for patients and their families
  • Training more psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers and counselors to help alleviate the national shortage of these professionals
  • Pursuing innovative research to advance the treatment and prevention of mental disorders
  • Building alliances with community advocates and organizations to reduce the stigma that continues to surround individuals with mental illness
Now is the time to give.

Recent breakthroughs in neuroscience and behavioral studies make this the ideal time to pursue our vision. Just as Menninger led efforts to advance the research and treatment of mental illness in the last century, Menninger will unite behavioral and biological science at The Epicenter to improve treatments, promote early intervention and, ultimately, prevent mental illness. Please support our efforts.
